Rita Asangarani

MacKay and AsangaraniAs the name would suggest, Ms. Asangarani, or Rita as most people know her as, is the founder and managing lawyer at Rita Asangarani Law Firm Professional Corporation.  

Rita obtained her Honours Bachelor of Social Science (Criminology) from the University of Ottawa, and went on to study at the International Inter-University of Dubrovnik in Croatia for her Post-Graduate certification in Victimology. She received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Ottawa with an exchange at the University of Puerto Rico, specializing in technology law, and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2013. During her articles, she clerked at the Canada Agricultural Review Tribunal, dealing with Administrative and Agriculture Law matters, including Food and Animal Law. 

She has over 20 years of experience in the Ontario real estate market, working in both real estate brokerages and law firms. She strives to ensure that the legal procedure is clear for her clients, whether it is for matters involving re-financing, selling, or purchasing a home, commercial real estate, real estate negotiations, severance of lands, buying, or selling assets of a business. Rita offers her legal services in both English and Farsi. 

Rita is a member of the Law Society of Ontario and the County of Carleton Law Association. She has also served on various Boards and currently sits on the Board of Directors for Roy n’ Cher Animal Rescue Farm Charity.   

She is proud to be a leading figure in paperless law practice and assists in the implementation and incorporation of paperless practices and the digitalization of law firms.  

Rita’s hobbies include modern board gaming, reading, watching Star Trek, and playing with her cat, dog, and toddler son.  

Matthew Jarrett

matthew jarret portfolioMatthew joined our team as an articling student in the summer of 2021 at the height of the real estate rush season. Before graduating from law school and obtaining a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of New Brunswick, Matthew completed an Honours Bachelor of Social Science with majors in both criminology and political science from the University of Ottawa before completing a Master of Arts in political science at Carleton University. While completing his undergraduate degree, Matthew served as a Parliamentary Committee Volunteer, volunteered with Democracy Watch, and played as a Gee-Gee with the University of Ottawa Men’s Rugby Team.  

During his master’s degree, Matthew volunteered with Carleton University’s Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities as a proofreader and editor and worked with parks Canada’s Protected Areas Establishment Branch as a consultation advisor, where he continued to work through law school before joining our team.  

Matthew is excited to continue serving his community as a lawyer and now leads the Wills and Estates department at the firm, while also practicing real estate and corporate law alongside Ms. Asangarani.  

Robin D. MacKay (passed away in February 2023)

Robin’s general practice emphasized wills, estates, co-operative housing, Anglican canon law, and non-profit corporate law.

Robin obtained his Honours BA in English and Philosophy at Trent University, Peterborough, and his Bachelor of Laws (now “Juris Doctor”) from Queen’s University, Kingston.

Robin opened his law practice in Ottawa in 1978. As a general practitioner, Robin has been exposed to almost every aspect of Ontario law.

Building community has been a theme of Robin’s life and practice. He has been legal counsel to many non-profit housing co-operatives, and some private non-profit housing providers.

Robin was the Chancellor and Diocesan Solicitor of the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa. He has served from time to time as a director of charitable organizations, including Ottawa Inner-City Ministries and Cornerstone Housing for Women Foundation.

We are saddened to announce the passing of Mr. Robin D. MacKay. Rita Asangarani Law Firm Professional Corporation continues his practice in his loving memory.
